Mark Spain, the Chairman and CEO of the company, hails from Atlanta and is a Terry College of Business graduate. Mark Spain is a second-generation real estate agent. He grew up in a family that loved homes, landscaping, and neighbourhoods. After watching his father in business, Mark developed a passion for customer service and people. He founded a company that valued the relationship more than the transaction.
After 15 years of real estate practice, Mark Spain joined Keller Williams in 2011 and founded the Mark Spain Team. The Mark Spain Team assisted over 3,500 families in closing their homes within five years. Mark Spain Real Estate was founded in 2016 after Mark Spain declared independence from Keller Williams. 2016, which was the busiest year, saw the sale 1 842 homes. Mark Real Estate has opened nine new offices. Three of these were able to reach the Charlotte, Raleigh, and Nashville areas over the next two years. Mark Spain Real Estate assisted 4,200 families in closing their homes in 2019. The Wall Street Journal ranked Spain Real Estate #1 in US closed transactions for the third consecutive year. In 2020, they served more than 5,600 families. Our desire to serve and growth will continue as we reach our largest year yet in 2021.

Mark Spain Real Estate’s team managed to surpass its previous year’s sales totals in 2019. The team crossed the $1 billion annual gross sales benchmark for the first-time with 4,200 transactions sides. The gross sales for 2019 were more than $300 million higher than the previous year. Spain Real Estate closed on average 81 homes per week in 2019.
Mark Spain Estate made its debut appearance on April’s REAL Trends 500. This ranking ranks the most successful residential real estate firms in America. Spain Real Estate was also among the 200 top-performing closed transactions for 2019. This list also included the 71st-highest-producing independent real estate brokerage.

Mark Spain Real Estate, based in Alpharetta in Georgia, has a team of salespeople serving the entire metro Atlanta area. The team has grown rapidly to 80 agents and currently adds about one agent per week. The expansion plans include the opening of a branch office at Athens, Ga. in spring and sub-offices throughout metro Atlanta by the end of this year. The company will expand its presence beyond Atlanta in the next 12-24 month.
Spain and his team have sold $2+Billion in real estate. They are likely to surpass $3 billion in 2016.
Spain acknowledges that the decision to leave Keller Williams was difficult because of his relationship with Gary Keller, the co-founder. “My time with Keller Williams has changed my outlook, my business, and my attitude towards philanthropy. It also enriched my family’s life. This is how I got to where I am today. I am grateful for my time with the company and have made many long-lasting friends there. It’s time for me to build on what I have built and to grow my brokerage and brand.”
John Makarewicz (company president) stated that Mark Spain Real Estate would be “overnight” a top 25 realty company in Atlanta. He was referring to the annual Atlanta Business Chronicle list in which the last company listed had $186 million in sales. Mark Spain Real Estate would theoretically have been No. 22 with its $282million in sales.
However, the company will continue to focus on providing industry-leading customer services. Makarewicz mentioned a new role in the company. “We have hired Joe Garcia to be our Director of Client Experiences because we want to improve our client experience.”

Mark Spain is a native Atlantan who graduated from the University of Georgia. He spends his spare time leading the Forsyth County Family YMCA. Spain is a charter member and serves on the organisation’s board of directors. Spain was the Volunteer of the Year in 2015 for the Forsyth County Family YMCA Chapter.
